Directly across the road, to the west (looking above the house in the photo) was the site of the Nutt School, a one room schoolhouse at the northeast corner of section 35 in Norton Township. Back in the day, this was a busy crossroads, with two farmsteads and the school, plus another farmstead just to the south.
