We currently live at this property, one of the original homesteads in Kankakee County. The livestock/hay barn is from the 1830’s & has pegs instead of nails. The eastern Dutch barn art was sold off decades before we bought it (it’s currently covered in street signs). The “new” house was built by Frank & Jeanette Campbell in 1868, but the field stone foundation is from the 1830’s. There is a lot more foliage/trees now, but other than that, she pretty much looks the same :)
Hi Christine! Thank you for sharing such interesting details about your property in Kankakee County. It sounds like a truly historic place with a rich past! We'd love to learn more about the changes that have taken place since the aerial photo was taken in 1980. Has the area around the property seen any significant developments or transformations? Also, can you tell us a bit about the farming activities on the property, if any?
It’s pretty much the same. Both of my neighbors are about the 3rd generation farming the land. Both neighbors are also conservationists so a lot of natural/untouched areas. Looks the same, just more trees (especially to the south)
