This is why 176 and Butterfield road in Libertyville IL. The Dairy Dream you see is the top right corner of the picture is where I had my first soft serve ice cream. Back then it was a big treat to be able to stop and get some. Today all this is gone and commerce has built around it. Butterfield R dis a 4 lane street now because of all the condo etc that have built in the area.
It's not all gone, the Dairy Dream is still there, the house across from it, center right edge of picture, is still there though converted to a business now.
Besides not being "all gone" is actually really hasn't changed much (of what is seen in the picture)......there are still gas stations on the south east and south west corners though the old buildings have been replaced.
North west corner (bottom center of pic) is still open but a storm overflow pond now. The utility right of way behind the gas station and Dairy Dream is still there though now also used as a bike/jogging path.
For those who are old enough to remember, the right-of-way behind gas stations and Dairy Dream, had tracks that were part of North Shore passenger line that ended service the last day of January 1963.
A Bulko, Bulk Petroleum Corporation, service station, 1207 West Park Avenue, Illinois State Route 176, Libertyville, Illinois. View looks south. Note the Citgo station across Butterfield Road. Within the year, Bulko would be purchased by the Gulf Oil Corporation, and the station would be rebranded Gulf.
