This is the Florsheim/Mullady Mansion on Red Top Farm,(also called Rogers Red Top Farm) on Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville IL. Originally owned by Florsheim (Florsheim shoes) then purchased by Walter Mullady. My Dad farmed the land for Mr Mullady from the early 60's to mid 70's and tended the Black Angus cattle. Mr Mullady also raised many thoroughbred race horses. We lived in the small farm house at south end in pic 21 Roll 64. Pic's 19-22 are all of this large farm. It was a beautiful farm, all the houses and buildings had red roofs and white fences everywhere. What a great place to grow up!

Beautiful farm and home. I lived north of it in one of the 1st subdivisions. Used to play in the fields & woods.
CMARIE who lived in the home here? Daughter named Kelly?

Hi Dave, Mr Mullady lived in the mansion and there were several apartments, trailers and small homes all over the property. The only Kelly I can remember from my time growing up there was the daughter of one of the horse trainers in the 70's. They lived in one of the apartments by the stables behind the mansion.

Cmarie, excellent memory. That must be her. I know she rode horses. Lots of freckles, cute as hell, had a crush on her. I went to Hawthorn Elementary with her. Our house backed up to the fence surrounding the pasture where they had the horses. I think that fact sold my mom on buying the house in the sommer of â˜70. We had lots of friendly visits in our backyard from those horses looking for attention. Unforgettable. Oddly enough I was thinking of that farm and property the other day. They had some fruit trees close by and we âœsampled❠the goods from time to time. Wow do I miss those days. Thanks for filling in the gaps in memory.

Cmarie when did you live there? Where did you go to school?

I lived there from about 1962? until I got married and moved away in 1976. I went to Hawthorn Elementary and Libertyville High School (class of 1975). Came back to visit about 10 years ago, hard to tell where the farm was any more! Made me very sad....

Hello! I moved to Libertyville in 1969. Went to Hawthorn Elementry School, too. Lived at 631 East Golf Road, one of the houses on the first street in the subdivision. I think it was called the Cambridge subdivision. The house is still there, of course. I think it cost $34,000.00 back then, brand new. The country club was at the end of the road. Anne McDonald lived next to me, and Molly Littrell lived on the street further down, as well. It was such a small subdivision then, but now Libertyville is huge I hear. The Red Top Stables were behind us when we moved in in March of 1969. It was a muddy mess in our backyard that spring. My sisters and I got stuck in the mud out back many times, trying to see the horses out there. That picture was much different even when we were there. Only lived there until 1970, then moved to Long Island, NY. Great memory..:)

Hi Suzie. We lived at 605 Downing just up the street. Moved there in June 1970, so just missed you. I remember the horses in the backyard. Loved that. It was a great neighborhood with lots of kids to get in trouble with.
I have a fantastic aerial photo Cambridge subdivision from 1973. I can send you a pic if you want it-send your email. If not, no worries. Libertyville is still a very nice town. I would love to move back. I don’t think it’s grown too much. I get a kick out if peoples’ comments and memories here. Thanks for posting

Hello. Do you know if this is the same Walter Mullady who purchased a farm in Crystal Lake as well? Shamrock Red Top?

Of course it is🐎🍀😇🍺

I lived in Riverwoods, and I remember riding the force preserve trails to red top farm. This was a long, long time ago.
