KFC is the only thing existing. The Amoco and other building were torn down to become a strip mall. It originally housed a Blockbuster Video

The building to the left of the Amoco station is Whistle Stop. I remember going there with my parents when I was a kid. I remember that you could rent movies there and my dad bought me my first Tina Turner poster from there.

In 2024, only KFC exists.

Wow, it sounds like you have some great memories of the Whistle Stop in 1984! Do you recall any other nostalgic spots from that time period in the area? Have you noticed any major changes in Madison County since then?

Absolutely!! In this picture, out of frame on the top left would have been the Skate Corrall (not sure if it existed in 1984 (I was only 5), but having a late November birthday, almost every one of my birthday parties was there. Also this sits in front of where the iconic Granny’s Rocker was. Sadly, now all of that has been replaced. Particularly in this area is now Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc.. I vaguely remember that there was a farmhouse/farm at the corner where Home Depot and their parking lot is now. I used to play soccer for the YMCA on the land where the Dierbergs complex sits, as well as visiting the old Madison County Nursing Home at Christmas time to sing to the residents with my church choir. 159/Troy Road used to only be a total of 3 lanes (1 in each direction and a turn lane), which was loads of fun on Saturdays when I was scheduled to work at McDonald’s at noon (only had one McDs in town in the 90s). If there are any specific areas/places in Glen Carbon/Edwardsville that you are interested in, let me know and I’ll see what I can tell you.

Pin location corrected. View looks NE.

Thanks AndyJ, I tried to move it, but could not get it to save correctly on 2 different browsers.

Glad to have helped. Thanks to you and saradavis17 for the KFC clues above, that helped me pinpoint the location.

You’re welcome AndyJ!
