This was my grandparents' farm in 1965, Virgil and Bertha Johnson. My father was serving in the Marine Corps at the time and would return to farm with Virgil until the mid-80's. As I was born in 1972, most of this farm appears in the pictures as it does from my childhood memories. The building at the north center edge of the barnyard was one of the first scale houses in that part of the county and remained standing into the new millennium. My grandparents remained in the house until it burned in the early 1980s during a terrible winter that hampered fire control efforts.
I remember the night of the fire. The house didn't stand a chance with the wind blowing 30+ mph and 20 below temperature.
