STillman Valley High School

The Hale School building east of the high school was torn down in the early 1980's. This high school was converted to be a junior high building in 1976, when Stillman Valley built a new high school on the south side of the town. The old park shelter house (small building with white roof near the top left side of this photo), had the front portion torn down & rebuilt. Many of the homes have been remodeled. The school parking lot was just paved two weeks ago and the school building (once high school now long converted to Jr high) got a new roof and much indoor remodeling.

Railroad tracks at the top of the photo belong to the Milwaukee Road Railroad. Now owned by C.P R.R

I started my school years at the grade school on the far right, 1st grade 1959. I can remember getting off of school bus parked along the street at the end of sidewalk leading up to the door. Graduated high school Byron 71.

Hi Larry E! Thanks for sharing your memories of the grade school in Ogle County. It must have been a nostalgic experience. We'd love to know more about what life was like in Ogle County during your school years. Did you participate in any local events or activities? Has the area changed much since then? Also, out of curiosity, have you or your family been involved in farming?
