Route 106 (West Cherry) and Old Route 36 Meet
963 IL-106, Winchester, IL 62694. The straight section of pavement seen at far right is the old alignment of US 36 & 54. The highway used to proceed into the heart of town and then turn north on Main Street. Sometime around 1953/54, the bypass was constructed (curved section of pavement seen in foreground) carrying US 36 & 54 around the NW side of town. State Route 106 was then extended west to meet at the junction with the bypass shown above. Only the building seen just left of center remains today. View looks south.
