This farm was owned and developed by James V. Omanson and sons from sometime in the 40's until recently. I am trying to obtain the name of the present occupants. Anyway...the farming was mainly taken over by his son Roland G. Omanson in the 60's when his family moved into the residence and his father (James) moved into the home to the north...that he also owned. This picture was taken after Roland lived here. I have another picture from around 1955 (that I was unable to post) from a different angle that shows the original corn crib (before the bins and machine shed. Also...the loafing shed behind the barn was just being built. The other detail is the little Garden Shed shown toward the top left. In the other photo...that shed was up closer to the house and was used for garden tools, drying onions, and as a "garage" for our bicycles. I am Evelyn Frey's daughter. She was the first child of James and Hildur Omanson but when her husband (my father) died unexpectedly from pneumonia at the Kewanee Public Hospital, she moved in with my brother (age 5) and me (age 3) where we lived until grown. James and Hildur had four children: Evelyn, Roland, Philip, and Esther.
My husband and I are the current owners of this property (purchased May 2019). I love learning about the history of our little farm. All the bins are gone now, and most of the smaller buildings, however the big barn, brick shed, garage, tractor shed, and the building by the house are still present.
