This was my grandparents, John and Sattabelle Watling's, farm. My grandmother inherited it from her parents, Henry and Minnie Ohlhues, estate and it stayed in the family until the 1990's. When Grandpa Watling died, we heirs had to sell the 75 or so acres of farm land and the homestead of 5 acres or so. The new owners have made many nice improvements to the house and grounds and the farm land is still being planted. Just to the south, on the other side of the Wauponsee Glacial Trail, formerly the Norfolk Railroad, is a triangle, part of the original 80 or so acres, filled now with trees and brush. When I was growing up, there was a huge garden in that triangle that we family members tended and harvested. I spent many happy days at Grandma and Grandpa Watling's, walking there and back from our home in Symerton. The farm immediately north belonged to Henry Ohlhues brother, Edward Ohlhues and his wife Alma until their passing in the 1960's. I was a regular visitor at their home in my youth as well.
