Located along Interstate Highway 55-U. S. Route 66, Bolingbrook, Illinois. The billboard advertises The Townhouses of Winston Village, north on 53. Winston Village Association is located along Boughton Road, just east of Illinois 53. Nothing remains today. View looks south-southeast.
Some farmsteads just can't buy a break. This one was originally a safe distance to the north of Route 66. It barely survived the construction of Interstate 55 in the 1950s, and happened to be just far enough north of the new interstate to avoid the Joliet Road interchange (the photo view is actually looking to the northwest). But the buildings were in the path of two future developments, either one of which would have ended their existence. As it were, residential real estate development would doom the property. By 1974, the land around the buildings was being excavated for residential real estate development, and all but the metal shed had been removed. If that hadn't happened, then the end would have come from the new I-55/355 interchange in the 1980s.
