My family ran the restaurant and gas station here from 1983 to 1991. Interstate Restaurant Truck Stop. Rented from the owners of the Sands Motel next door. Many employees and contractors building the Com Ed nuclear power plant down the road would come in to eat, along with truck drivers and folks just pulling off of I-55 before the Loves and mega truck stops took over. 24 hour business a tough grind.

The old Sands Motel was hit by a tornado in 2013 and the owners decided that it wasn't salvageable so it was torn down the follwoing year.
