This is my great grandparent's home along old Rt 13 East of Marion, Illinois.
64 acre plot was purchased by the AMAX coal company in the late 1960's for strip mining.
This photo appears to have been taken some time after the property has been left unoccupied.
Mid way up on the right you can make out a collapsed large building. This would have been the location of the Tanner Sawmill. This saw mill provided much of the timbers used during mining operations in the area in the first 1/2 of the 20th century.
The pond in the middle started off as a "gopher mine" where my great grandfather mined coal in the early part of the 1900's
Today, all that remains of the homestead is the old sawmill office which is the small dark building cut off mid way up on the right.
