This was the Paulson Farm. Its barn was famous for Saturday night barn dances from 1935, when the barn was built, until the start of World War II in 1941. The barn was featured in photographer Larry Kanfer's 2009 book "Barns of Illinois".
The barn replaced a previous barn which was destroyed by fire on November 15, 1934. The Belvidere Daily Republican reported that the fire destroyed 1,000 bushels of grain and a large quantity of hay. The oak timber structure was a victim of spontaneous combustion, according to the newspaper. Six years prior, the Paulsons had spent $1,000 remodeling the old barn after a tornado came through the area.
