Research into local records and historic atlases indicate that this is the farm and house of John Wesley Merritt (1843-1921) and Lydia Lamb Merritt (1856-1895). The style of the home points to a build date around 1890. The home is no longer standing but was located at this modern address:

The house there today was built in 1995. The John Merritt house was inventoried in the 1989 IHSSI survey of Hendricks County, but was abandoned at that time. The curved profile of the drive seen in this photo is still present.
