This was originally Ubbe Ibeling's farm that he bought and built sometime in the late 1890s after his family came to the US from Holland. His daughter, Alice, married a man from Northwest Iowa named John Haan. He took over the business from his father and law around 1935 and the farm has remained in the Haan family since then. It is now on its fifth generation. The farm started out as 120 acres of land and has grown over the decades. My grandpa fed hundreds of cattle here over the years and raised corn and soybeans. My uncle later fed many pigs. All of the buildings visible in this 1983 photo are still there. The big barn on the left was built around the year 1900, originally with a wooden cupola on the top that was removed in the late 1960s. Other than that it looks relatively the same today. The smaller hog barn on the right hand side was built in 1936 and the lean to was added in the 1960s. I think the tractor in front of the machine shed on the left hand side is the Farmall 706 that is still on the farm today. The farm remains operational to this day.
