This was the homestead of Hans and Mary Ewoldt. They were both born in Germany and began life in the United States in the Davenport, Iowa area. They came to northwest Iowa in 1883 and began farming at this location. My grandfather,Emil, was about one year old in 1883 and grew up here. Hans died in 1900 and Emil and the other children (there were eleven; seven boys) helped Mary run the farm for many years. The farm finally passed out of the Ewoldt family in 1943 when Ray Olson bought it.
