Built in 1863 as a one room school house on my great-great grandfathers land. He met and married my great-great grandmother, as she was hired as a teacher here. When the school closed in the mid 1950's, my great grandfather had it converted to a small 2 bedroom home. My parents first home after marriage. My birth home.
The dog house you see in this picture, was on the roof, where the school bell hung. Dad converted it to the dog house. The Bell is hanging at Iowa State University, as our family donated it to them.
This property is still owned by family, as I purchased it from the family trust.

Hi Sharon, thank you for sharing the fascinating history of your family's property! It's incredible how it has been passed down through generations. We'd love to learn more about Guthrie County in the mid-1950s. Could you share any memories from that time or let us know how the area has changed since? We're also curious to know if your family has done any specific type of farming on the property.
