I lived here until 1969 it looks pretty much the same in this photo as I recall except we didn't have a mobile home on the property. IT was Leta Stroecker's farm and she sold it in 1969 or1970 as we rented the farm from her. We milked cows and raised lots of hogs. When we told her we were leaving they sold the farm.

Hi Judy! Thank you for sharing your memories of Leta Stroecker's farm. It sounds like you have fond memories of living there. Can you tell us more about the farming you did on the property? It's interesting to hear about the changes that have taken place since the photo was taken in 1985. We'd love to learn more about your experiences growing up in Union County, IA.

The barn was home to numerous kitties. We my Dad and Mom and my sister and I milked 13 cows at the max in that barn & sold cream to a produce house in Kimballton Iowa. I remember Dad would fill the seperated milk (we sold cream) into barrels and feed the milk to our growing fat pigs. We also had lots of sows in the building se of the barn and farrowed to finish. We had riding horses and played often in the creek that ran east of the farmstead. I got my first bike and learned to ride from the barn hill to the road. I wrecked and wrapped it around the tree that in 1967 was much smaller( The big tree on east of driveway) It was the first home I lived in that had an indoor bathroom. That was in 1967 and I was 7 years old. We lived there until January of 1970 when we moved to my Grandparents farm to farm with them. My dad raised had 50 angus cross stock cows too on this farm and we had chickens and Mom always had a garden behind the house. West of the house in the chicken house was where the cistern pump fuse box was and many nights we got sent out to the chicken house with a flashlight to shut the chickens up and turn the pump off. It was a nice place and I had many memories there. I attended school at Shannon City thru 1st grade when they condemned the old school then we went to Arispe to finish our elementary days.
