so much has changed in this picture. I currently live here more than half of those barns are gone. starting to redo the barns now

This is the Roy Hay Farm, just east of Lehigh, Iowa. They were my grandparents. Spent many a day at this farm as a child growing up. As near as I can remember from my mothers information Grandpa bought this farm somewhere between 1935 to 1940. I know this where my mother lived when she met my father after high school in 1936. Grandpa Roy passed in 1963, and his two sons took over the farm. They eventually quite farming it but the place stayed in the family with my aunt living there for a long time. Most of the buildings are gone now and the last time I was by there was 2015. Spent many a day helping out on this farm. I do believe this picture is older than what they say as the road is still gravel, and if my memory serves me right it was paved (blacktop) sometime after I joined the Navy in 1963, but I could be wrong, been a long time!!!! Good luck in restoring the old barns Raenell. Years ago it was a very beautiful farm as I remember growing up!!!

This was my Grandparent's/Parent's Farm. (Roy/Earl Hay). This was a hard-working dairy farm at one time! It was fun going to the barn and seeing the neat things going on!!! There was an orchard to the east of the house, filled with apple, cherry, plum trees!!! That's all gone, along with most of the buildings. I have very fond memories of this farm, which was beautiful and very productive in its day!!! So glad the Richardson Family lives there!!! ENJOY!!!

Hi Judith, thank you for sharing your nostalgic memories of your grandparent's/parent's farm in Webster County, IA! It sounds like it was a vibrant place with a hard-working dairy farm and a lovely orchard. We'd love to learn more about that time period. What kind of farming did your family do on the property? Has anything significant changed since the photo was taken in 1973?
