Chicago and North Western engine house in center of picture; former Illinois Central boiler house (turned engine house) in the Hooven Valley area of Sioux City (lower right). Floyd Blvd.
Previously the "CNW engine house" was part of the CMO -Omaha Road (owned by CNW after 1958) locomotive and car shops complex. Note remaining turntable that once stood in the middle of a complete circle roundhouse that gave way for the extension of Floyd Blvd. The IC boiler house did house a steam engine once. That engine was (still is!) Chief Iron Horse- GN Ry #1355 that began its restoration right here. It can now be seen at the Siouxland Historical Railroad Association's Milwaukee Road Shops and Museum in North Riverside, Hwy12.
Former roundhouse was 38 stalls. The roundhouse was built in 1890 and demolished in 1956-57.
