This photo shows Edmonds' Country Store, lower right, our childhood home, the Highland Elementary School's lunchroom, middle, the old Highland Institute "Shop", the Presbyterian Church's parsonage, lower left. There are 2 homes as you proceed up the creek, one almost hidden by foliage, and the Robin Herald home at the top of the photo. As of today, the only buildings remaining are the "lunchroom" and the Herald residence. The others "died" by fire. The large white 2 story frame home behind the store was once the Highland Institute's "practice" home. All female students in high school eventually stayed there full time, learning etiquette, home economics, child care, and so much more. My own mother graduated from HHS in 1937, stayed there and learned skills and habits which would enhance her life until her end of days.
