Locals loved this place. We swam here, had Werner roasts and fished here.
It was our amusement park in the summer. It got wild and flooded in the spring but by summer it was calmer.
I grew up on Devil's Hollow Rd. We road home on the fender and some on the running board after swimming and wading at Red Bridge. I took my husband -to -be here to target practice at the Railroad track. He was from Huntington WV and country life was new to him. He loved it. He was in the navy but this country girl out shot him!
I think it's more restricted now and not nearly as pretty as when the old bridge was
still in use. You couldn't live in Franklin County and say you didn't swim or court at Red Bridge.
Nope! You certainly couldn't have been a true Frankfortite and NOT have spent a summer or two at Red Bridge. Either laying on the rocks above the falls, climbing down the falls to sit in some wonderful, clear water or chose to go up creek and take advantage of the rope swing. Or if you ever had the nerve to climb "devils slide". You were a very fortunate person!
Devils Hollow Rd.
This was the home of Delmar and Christine Quire in the 1960s.

Swam a number times in the pool up around the bend from the falls. Great sandy bottom and about 7-8 foot at the deepest. Want to thank whoever tied the rope from a branch of a giant sycamore tree, made for great fun swinging out over the water.
