My grandparents Leonard and Daisy kitchen, bought this farm in the mid 1930s from a man last name of hale. The house was built in 49 and burned in 91. A single story brick home replaced it and is still there. The building behind the house was my mother's gift shop, built in 76. She closed it in 98, and my wife plans to reopen soon. It's not really visible, but beyond the shop is a trailer. My parents, Darrell and Deana poplin, put it there in 1978. It burned in 99. I replaced it in 2003 with another trailer that is still there today. My mom left the house/property to me. Hopefully I can move my wife (Katie) and 2 boys (Mathew and Marcus) into it soon.
Rex poplin (the house is at 2613 w.hollow.) w hollow is road at left side of pic. Rt 2 would be towards the bottom, just out of the frame.
Hi Rexford, thank you for sharing your family's story about this property! It sounds like there's a lot of history there. Do you have any memories growing up on the farm? What was life like in Greenup County during the mid-1930s and the 1980s when the photo was taken? It's fascinating to see how things have changed over time. Best wishes to your wife on reopening the gift shop! -Alexis
