This is my McDowell family farm. This house was built around 1897, as that was the date carved in a rock on the root cellar, by Taylor Hunt. My great grandparents, Joe and Nancy McDowell, bought it around 1919. It was then purchased by their son and wife, Walter and Amanda McDowell, my grandparents, in the early 1930's. When my Grandfather passed away he was still living here. My brother, Ottis William Carver,Jr., bought the house and part of the farm in 1984. The house sadly burned to the ground within that year and a new house was built near the old one. The rest of the farm was purchased by other family members including myself and my husband. We now reside on the property that we bought near this sight. note: there are now 5 homes with direct descendants living here on the farm.
