I think this is Lola post office, and gas station that both still stand in Lola .great place to live only miss the building being open still .we live on bonanza Rd we're a spar mines ran back in the 20,30,40,s I have a picture of a crew and a pic of my grandfather slayden who work there to .
This is a great picture Of a great hometown! I'm thankful to have been raised there & it was truly like living in Mayberry!
The house on the other side of the gas station was Charles & Marie Croft, two of the sweetest people in the world. On the other side of their house was their gas station, grocery and Charles was always changing tires!!!
My hometown. I spent the 40's and most of the 50's here. I lived at Maple Dell.
would love to see your spar mine crew picture, my father, cecil hunter worked in the spar mine.
I am Charles And Marie Crofts granddaughter . My memories are so vivid of the gas station . Waking up at 3:30am to biscuits and gravy then opening the store while it was still dark . My job was to sweep floors and then dust the candy bars , chips, and oil cans . I miss the simple life of Lola back in the day . But... I'm so thankful of my raising . I hold it close to my heart ! Lived here many years and do now again. This is the store run by Carter & Ruth Johnson, later Roy and Phyllis Johnson Cooper. Roy Cooper took over the Post Office and it closed when he retired. The filling station was John Lowery Croft's (my uncle). The house next door was owned by Charles and Marie Croft.
