My parents, Johnny and Donna Yelton Deaton, bought this property in the early 1970's and built the house. They lived here until around 2000 when they sold this lot and built another home back on the northeast side by the Gosney property. After my mom died in 2004, my dad eventually sold the new home and rest of the acreage in 2008 or 2009. Since this photo was taken, my parents had added decking all around both sides and the back of the house. The barn was eventually tore down and replaced with an equal size metal building. A ton more landscaping was done to the yard to make it much easier to mow.

A footnote about this old barn: Mr. Frank Pribble owned the property adjoining us on the barn side. It had been in his family for a long time. He was old when we moved here (at least he seemed to be to me as I was only around 6 or 7 years old at the time--probably in his late 70's) and would ride his old horse, Midge, down the hill and come and tell us the history of Pendleton County. This tobacco barn was built in the early 1920's and at the time it was built, it was the largest barn in Pendleton County. Many meetings were held here because of its size. Unfortunately, one of those was a Ku Klux Klan meeting shortly after it was constructed. Mr. Pribble was a small boy at the time and recalled men showing up and once they walked through the doors, putting sheets with eye holes over their heads. He told us all the kids were peeking and laughing at how funny those guys looked but they didn't realize that what was going on wasn't funny at all. He said that was the only time that he knew of that this kind of meeting was held there. Mr. Pribble was a treasure as a neighbor. He knew so much history and had such a great memory. His family was long-lived so he remembered things from his childhood that was told to him by his older relatives--such fascinating stories.
