The Peacock Tavern on Route 201 (opposite side of Pleasant Pond and across from Fire Road 121 &122). Google map street view will show you how it looks today. A famous and "...well-known hostelry on the route from the coast to Augusta," built in 1807. Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Tavern is located at 1037 U.S. Route 201 in Richmond, Maine. It is believed to be one of the oldest buildings in the town. Built by Benjamin Shaw, its name is derived from Edward Peacock, a subsequent owner.
The Peacock Tavern is now owned by the State of Maine and is part of the Peacock Beach State Park, which is located across Route 201 on Pleasant Pond.
