This is where I grew up, 20+ years after this photo was taken.
Now 102 Staples Road, Limington Maine 04049
Hi Tim! It's fascinating to hear that you grew up in the same area years after this aerial photo was taken. Do you have a favorite memory of growing up on the property? How has the area changed since then? Did you notice any significant differences over the years?
I'm Tim's older brother - by the time our parents bought the property in (circa) 1984, the large barn in the upper right had been replaced with a modern barn that was oriented facing south. We had always known about the existence of the original barn, but this is the very first time any of us, parents included, have seen a photo of it! We're all so excited to have found this image.
Changes: The barn that is attached to the house was replaced with a modern addition and two car garage in the 1990s. It's not visible in this photo, but prior to renovations, to get to the attached garage you passed through a covered passage that included a small room containing the original (two seater!) outhouse for the property. Yes, there was indoor plumbing by the time my folks bought it.
Growing up, my parents were always working on renovation projects. While the house retains many original features and charms, it has all been renovated while retaining as much of the original character as possible. From 1986 until her retirement, my mom ran her business from the property. A small out building and green house were added, and though the business is largely closed, the property retains the name Steeplebush Farm.
Hi Colin! We're thrilled to hear that you and your family are excited about finding the aerial photo of your property. It's amazing how these images can uncover unseen parts of our history. Could you share more about the farming activities your family has done on the property? We'd love to learn more about its rich history and how it has changed over the years. Feel free to share any other memories or stories you have from growing up in York County, ME.
