RT 4a at Rt 109 in Sanford(Looking Southeast)

So much has changed in this area. The intersection is now a traffic circle. The Lil General convenience store has been enlarged. Along the right side of 109 is a McDonalds a Shell gas station/convenience store , a Partners ( SIS) bank, Lord's Clam Box restaurant and Shain's Ice Cream. The building in the foreground ( a school ?) is gone and other businesses are filling in. See photo # 9 on this roll for a different view of the intersection.

Our family owned 140 acres over on the blueberry plains on Rte. 99, and without fail, on our way over to work there raking blueberries or clearing brush and burning understory with our propane burners, we always stopped here to both gas up our equipment and to buy italian sandwiches. Back in the early '60's this was Austin's Store. I remember Bobby Austin, and they had a side room where they sold firearms, and they occasionally displayed historical items. I remember they once had a Civil War forage cap on display. As a kid, I love going in to look at stuff. It was always a busy place
