My wife and I own this house. It dates back to 1820 - burned and rebuilt in the 1870's. Built by Thomas L. Offutt. Later it was the home of - among others - John MacDonald (Union Civil War captain and Congressman from Maryland's 6th District) and Newbold and Beppie Noyes (whose family owned the Washington Star newspaper).
Pretty cool! When we bought it there were still four horses living in the back yard, belonging to a neighbor. The house had been empty ten years. A nearby gas station at River Road & Falls Road Mitch & Bill's (Exxon) has aerial photos of similar vintage showing the house. All the 1/2-mile space between the station & our house was corn stubble. Today it's a shopping center.
