My Grandpa Short started this business in 1969 after moving to Lupton from St. Charles. It peaked in the late eighties with almost 20 people working in the excavation business (shown here) and on the beef cattle farm, where he had around 325 head of cattle. My grandpa (Ray Short Sr.) was killed in a farming accident in August of 1996. The business declined after that, and is now primarily a two man operation ran from my uncle’s house. He still owns the shop, but it’s mostly rented out for storage.
