The former Tom and Josephine Shima homestead (25307 Co. Highway 61) & the Beroun Pavilion. The Beroun Pavilion was built in 1922, and owned by Ernest Chalupnik and T.J. Shima since 1926. It served as a community recreation center, the local dance hall, the polling place for Mission Creek Township and (from 1940) the location for the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s annual community picnic. Shima and Chalupnik sold the Beroun Pavilion to Lloyd and Marlys Purdy who moved their family into annex on the southeast part of the building (which was formerly used for storage). They renamed the building as the “Hi-Lite” and kept the bar part of it open all week rather than just for the Saturday night dances. The building was later sold to Cliff and Betty Olson who converted it to a “flea market” for a short time. It ceased operations in the 1980s.
