This farmstead was owned by my parents, George John and Eleanor Irene (Lyrek) Salonek. They referred to it as “The Other Place” because it was the other place (farmstead) that they owned. They raised Holstein young stock there. They took down the barn over 20 years ago, at the time this picture was taken, because it was falling down and becoming too dangerous for the steers to find shelter in it.
The old windmill that was overgrown with grapevines, that formally stood near the house, (alongside County Road 30), is gone at the time this picture was taken.
Throughout the years, my parents always had folks renting out the farmhouse. This was very useful, as the renters helped keep an eye on things for my parents.
At one time there were two barns at this site—one next to the remaining silo, and one where the pole shed now stands.
