This is my Dad's farm. The barn in front is the neighbors and their house is the top right. The barn on the left was ours and goes with the house next to it, hidden by the trees. The property line is just to the left of the cows, those are the neighbors. There is a shop (at the top) and a machine shed (center top). My brother farmed for a number of years and eventually sold to an amish family. The location is about 3 or so miles from the hamlet of Lebanon.
My husband and I bought this farm with 100 acres in 1957..for $1100.00 down and a can of milk a day. We raised our 5 children there, increasing acreage to 300 over the years. The front portion of the barn was added in 1973. We started wth13 head of Holsteins and eventually had in the neighborhood of 120 cows including replacement heifers. We had a large garden, picked blackberries and froze or canned a lot of food for the winter months. I now live in Florida, a widow of 9 years. What do I miss most, after my husband of 57 years???a freezer full of beef and home grown veggies!!
Another note from the former owner..the farm is 4 miles west of Earlville, NY and 3 miles east of hamlet of Lebanon. The same folks still own the house on far right and their son is still a farmer...helping put food on a lot of tables.
As one of the sons I put a lot of hours on tractors, snowmobiles and hunting woodchucks in the field. This Farm was known for its beautiful strip cropping up the side Hill just to the left of this picture.
Enjoyed seeing the picture. Memories there aplenty.
