I lived here at the time this photo was taken. This is the Western Branch of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. My father, James Foster, managed the farm. My parents planted a large garden plot (almost to the right edge in the middle of the field). It had a strawberry patch, red raspberry patch, and provided potatoes, lima beans, peas, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, onions, rhubarb, sweet corn, squash and melons for our family of 6. Mother invested hours of labor in planting, picking, canning and freezing. All four of us kids were expected to help regularly with shelling peas and beans, freezing corn, picking berries, pulling onions, and more. There were two large wooded areas not shown in this photo where we picked black raspberries. Needless to say, we enjoyed a lot of berry pies and preserves.
