My parents moved into this house in about 1954 + or - a year and we lived there till 1970. The small white building on the right was an outhouse. The house didn't have indoor plumbing till about 1965 -66 when my dad built on a bathroom. The house was considered haunted by many (myself included). We lived off the road an 1/8 mile from the road. We would hear car doors slam and everyone would be setting in the room and there were no cars outside or even on the road. One time I heard footsteps in the upstairs, I ran out the kitchen door to the stairs and met my dad who herd the footsteps and went out the door on the other side of the house each unaware of each other. When we searched the upstairs no one was there . A pond was dug in 1968

Auditor record has the generic 1900 build date, but it looks like the core house has been remodeled very extensively

The house had hand hewn logs and a stone foundation. Someone bought the house several years after we moved. My sister went there about 10-15 years ago and said they had done extensive remodeling. She said the only thing they kept was the skeleton of the original house and redid everything else.

Hi Bud! Thanks for sharing your memories of the house in Clark County, OH. It sounds like the remodeling completely transformed it! I'm curious, what was it like growing up in that area? Are there any other specific details about the house or the surrounding landscape that you remember from back then? Also, did you or your family have any involvement in farming on that property?

My grandfather bought the farm (285 acres) about 1930. It was an old abandoned house till my parents came back from the service in 1953 or 1954. When my parents and young baby (me) needed a place to live they moved in and made the house livable. The 36 acres shown in the photo were always pasture land and had cattle on it. Just out of the picture past the corncrib on the far left was a bend in the driveway that had a golden delicious apple tree that was amazing with big apples and never had a worm.

Hi Bud! Thank you for sharing your fascinating memories of your family's farm. It's amazing to hear how your parents turned the old house into a livable home. The golden delicious apple tree sounds delightful! Did you continue farming on the property, or has something else taken its place since then? We'd love to hear more details about your experiences growing up in Clark County, OH. What other changes have you noticed since the photo was taken in 1964?

I moved from there in 1970. It was a pasture then with cattle. It is now a hose farm with stables and other out building. There was a pond that was dug in 1968? that has since been filled in either by man or silt and trees that have grown up where it was. You can't see even a trace of where the pond was. When I was a kid you could walk around the house a not see a light in any direction. Our nearest neighbor who wasn' related was a mile away so you learned to get along with your siblings.
