My grandparents (Paul and Viola Darner) built the house in the early to mid 60s. My great grandparents bought the farm for them in the 50s. They lived in the old 2 story farmhouse until the new one was built. The old farmhouse was near the barn and not in this picture. It was burned down by the New Jasper Fire Dept as a training exercise in the late 80s. My family owned the farm until my grandmother passed away almost 2 years ago. I grew up on the farm helping my grandfather in the fields and with the livestock. The trees they planted around the house are now 50 to 60 feet tall. The driveway to the garage was paved in the late 80s. The farm is now owned by the Mangan family who are neighbors.

I remember when the house and barn were built. The Mangan's and Darner's were neighbors for over 60 years and never had the first problem. I was honored to have the opportunity to purchase the farm in 2012. The house and barn are presently owned by Bryan and Renee Achtermann. They are good neighbors and are county folks. Renee teaches 2nd grade in Fayette County. Bryan is a deputy sheriff in Montgomery County and they both enjoy raising show pigs and farming. They have a daughter that is two years old, so, hopefully, they will enjoy their home for a long time.
