We have lived here for 20 years. Many of the buildings are gone now.

We really emjoy the photo. It lets us see what the property looked like back then.

My grandfather, Everett Black, built this house out of bricks that came from Mount Vernon when the bricks were taken up from High Street. He made trip after trip into town with his tractor and wagon to haul the bricks and cleaned each and every one by hand. The land was used as a celery farm. I spent many sunny days playing under the weeping willow tree in the upper left corner of the photo. There were 3 apple trees on the property, each a different variety of apple, that my grandma turned into the best tasting applesauce I have ever had. I grew up in the house across the creek to the east, which was where the celery farm workers lived (who came from Holland to work the fields). I have many times wondered what ever happened to the large silver swing set that was just to the right of the large white building in the center of the photo. My grandfather built that swing set for me and I spent hours on it every weekend, weather permitting. I would love to talk with the current owners and maybe stop to see what they've done with the place on one of my visits to Mount Vernon. I can be contacted at paige_black@live.com
