The William Lang family still lives there -- 50+ years -- 10 children! There was very little paint on the main house -- siding was applied; the back of the house was closed in eliminating the outdoor cellar doors and added to the kitchen; there was a lot of electrical work done but NO indoor plumbing for years! We heated with wood stoves. The addition to the house made room for more children and gave mom and dad a new room. The path in front of the house is where we kids (plus friends) rode ponies, horses, and bicycles round and round the house -- and up and down that hill. When we moved there, there was a cable guardrail out in front of the house; the south driveway was not there; there was a steep driveway where the north path is (it was filled in with boulders and dirt to close it off after the bottom drive was put in); the area in front of the house was a very steep rock covered hill we had to climb to catch the bus; the roadway was narrower -- the state came through and cut down the hills north and south of the house, covered the rocks with dirt, took down the guardrail, then grandpa Barnhart put in the bottom drive. The hill in front of the RR tracks was steep and had previously been used as a garbage dump before it was filled in with dirt, grass sown to make a lush play area for us kids. All 10 children graduated from Bethel Local Schools. Great photo -- great memories!!
