This home was build around 1960 by my Grandmother, Mary E. (nee Hemminger) Benson McKibben after the previous home here burned down. She sold the place after retiring as a phone operator around 1968-69 and built a new home on Lake Erie with a view of Put-in-Bay. She owned the land back to the creek and sold off some of the walnut trees back there before selling the place. She had an oil rig on the place during the oil boom, but got a dry hole. She did not like me calling it "granny's dry hole." I remember enjoying the sound of the wind beneath the pines, the "flags" (irises) that she grew along the road, the peonies and her Jack-in-the-pulpit that grew along the north fence line.
