This is Ater's Lake, later known as Sun Valley Lake. The lake is now privately owned (and I'm pretty sure it's for sale right now.

I am looking for 11069 County road 550. It was previously old rt. 35. Do you have any or any earlier?

Thanks!

Vicki, there is a chance that the place you are looking for is on one of these film rolls. Unfortunately, the site does not have too much specific information about where any of the photos were taken, and the Google Maps link for each photo covers a wide approximate area. You would probably have to look through all of them and recognize the place from the air.

I believe this was called Sun Valley Lake when the photo was taken, and was still in use. They still had local rock bands playing in the beach house.

This place was formerly called Aters Lake. It was a pay and swimming lake that had an island on it known as Monkey's Island. Rumor has it they did keep monkeys on it as an attraction at one point. The lake was sold to the campground across the street (SR550) at some point and became Sun Valey Lake. It is privately owned now and is up for sale. No bands play the any more, sadly.

I grew up at this lake! We had a lot of fun here. We also did some camping as well. The cousins camped with us. I sure miss those carefree days!

Aters Lake was where our family went on hot days. That place was great. It's still there on county road 550( old route 35 )and appears in good shape. It was just like a beach house that you would see in Maine. They had ice cream, hotdogs, a sandy beach, juke box. Later when I started driving in the 70's we would grab a six pack and all of us would go there on the weekends for the bands. The place would be packed. It later became Sun Valley Lake as part of the campground accross the road. There's nothing around like this place now. Sure wish it would reopen to the public. --Tim

I lived in Chillicothe until 1969 and loved going to Aters Lake! The bands and atmosphere were so much fun!

It was a rare treat when our family would be able to go to Aters Lake. Mom would pack us a lunch and we would spend the entire day. I remember renting a tractor tire tube that Mom loved to float around on. Great memories!

Don't change anything. My Aunt Dory and Uncle Lloyd lived just down the crik. I use to ride My go cart or Mini bike up that hill just to cool off & go for a swim. Sometimes you Miss the things that made you. YOU.
