This is a very historical homestead. It is thought that the original part of the home which is hand- hewn log was built about 1755. It was built by Thomas Croyle (Kreuel). Later it was eventually sold to the the Hartley's. A large addition was added, stone covered the log portion and it was used as a tavern and lodging for travelers on the only route through the area. Today it is used as offices, used car lot and is currently for sale or lease.
I grew up in the house in the lower right. I think my parents (Lyle and Shirley Stuby) bought it in about 1971. My dad eventually built a shop in the corner of the property at the edge of the frame. My parents sold the house in 1991 and it was mostly demolished, and a new building was built on the foundation. The large, old house obscured by the trees was never occupied while I lived there other than being used as an office for a few years.
