House is gone isn’t property is now part of Doubletree Hilton location. My family owned since 1955 to maybe 1980.
Established in 1833, the little house was built by Richard Jones. The Horse Chestnut tree in the center of the frame was planted by them with a buck eye from England. The property transferred to his daughter Mary Anne Jones Douthett in 1850. Mary Anne lived on this property her entire life until her death in 1901. She transferred ownership to her son Lemuel Douthett around 1870 when his growing family required the building of the big victorian house pictured here. At one time this was home to Lemuel, his wife, Maggie, his mother, Mary Jones, two of the Douthett's married children, two unmarried children, and two orphaned nieces.
It was sold out of the family in the 1920's .
Interstate 79 would eventually run left to right just beyond the baseball field.
