Pool is gone...sad ..many fun days spent there with my children..

Grew up in Woolrich from 1957 to 1978. It was a wonderful place to grow up as a kid. Had horses in the barn was torn down where the Outlet Store is now. Bought our groceries at the old store. The kids played at the supervised Community Center, bowled on a league in the basement. Went from the pool, to the "crick" to the park store to the barn and back and forth all day long all summer long. It was a winter wonderland when it snowed. It no longer has many of those treasures left. Always drive up through when I'm in the area reminiscing of wonderful childhood memories.

I grew up that from 1955-1966. Loved that little village.

Grew up there from 1979-1987. Sat. morning swimming lessons. Brrr! The library, lolipops from the store (that can't be found anywhere else) Mom worked in the store basement for Woolrich Woolen Mills. Dad worked for Piper Aircraft. Wonderful memories.

The Rich family sure knew how to care for their community.

My memories of the Woolrich pool 1946 when it was flow through pool. Sunday evening the water was drained from the pool and Monday morning Norn would enlist kids to help scrub the walls and floor of the pool. After cleaning, there was gate valve that allowed water to come from Chatham Run into fill the pool so it would able to open Tuesday morning for swimming lessons. The pool operated by flow through until 1959 when Pennsylvania State outlawed flow through pools and mandated pools install water filter systems. one does not realize all the problems of pool operations until you get involved with the maintenance of a public swimming pool. There is much more I could say here but I will save that for a later time.

Not so vintage - When I grew up in Woolrich 1942 / 1968 there was not a fence around the little pool, no slide into the pool, there was a high dive and one low dive not two low dives and no roof behind the dives.

I sure would never want to grow up somewhere else !

We played in the "barn", wool storage building, pool after hours, dams way up stream (all off limits), we also snow sled riding up behind the park. Did any one out there stand on the pipe hand rails on the high dive then jumped to the board and then into the pool !!
