I heard it was part of hangings was that true?
This was once the Cumberland County hanging grounds, many years ago. I was told the gallows were about where McDonalds is now, above the top of the picture. This gas station is now SPEEDWAY in 2021
This is a cool photo with Southside Deli, formerly Scales, formerly Bixlers in the right foreground. The brick building whose roof you can see is still there on the north side of High St. The railroad spur right of way can still be seen in the treeline behind Frog Switch, if you look at Google Maps or Earth.
Looking east at an Atlantic service station, 602 East High Street, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. York Road, Pennsylvania Route 74, is seen going to the southeast. Notice that it is also signed as South Interstate Highway 81. Today, a Speedway gas station, and C-store occupies this site.
