I could write all day about this home--I grew up here from about 1971 until 1983, attending elementary school just up the hill to the east. My bedroom was on the second floor above the cellar doors on the east side. If you look closely, I am looking out the window at the airplane! The home is about 1 mile east of Leck Kill. This beautiful white house featured graceful bowed windows on the rounded rooms in the center of the front side and in my sister's bedroom on the southeast corner of the second floor. The large tree in the back right corner was one of the tallest willow trees in the county. It eventually split apart in the years after I left. The tree on the right with the swing is a walnut--I gathered them up each year to keep them from getting into the lawn mower. The small white square to the right is a springhouse. In the summer, we would store watermelons in the cold water that flowed out of the spring. In the winter, we trapped muskrats when they tried to enter the springhouse. The Schwaben Creek ran east to west in our backyard (right to left across the top of this picture). A smaller tributary of the creek ran under the road past the springhouse to join with the main creek behind the willow tree. The larger outbuilding was our garage, home of the barn swallows that divebombed me each time I tried to put my bike away. The smaller outbuilding was a chicken coop where a rooster would attack whenever I went in to collect the eggs. In the backyard, we had a vegetable garden, growing corn, peas, green beans, tomatoes, and strawberries. I barely recognize the property today--the garage is gone, replaced with a newer larger garage closer to the road. The house is painted light brown. The yard is cluttered with junked cars. This photo was taken facing north. Compare with photo 18-BNO-20 from 1967, with photo 71-HNO-10 from this same roll, and with photo 2C-BNO-8 from 2001.
