This farm, formerly owned by the Steel family until sold to the county in 1969, was located on property that was the site of the colonial village of Hanna's Town, the first county seat of Westmoreland County, PA. It is located along the historic site of Forbes Road. On the side of the road depicted (North side) the fields have become overgrown with trees and shrubs, except for one approximately four-acre field that continues to be mowed, as do fields across the street (South side). The barns have been razed and a number of old and historic log cabins have been moved to the site. Hanna's Tavern once served as the county courthouse in the Revolutionary War era. An approximate facsimile of Hanna's Tavern was built on-site in the 1970s. Historic Hanna's Town is now a county park and is also the home of the Westmoreland Historical Society.
Hi Michael,
Thank you for the great history of this property! Do you work for the historical society or have a connection to the historic village that is now there?
