Oven Creek Methodist Church & cemetery. My great, great, great, great grandfather, Jacob Easterly donated the land for this church. Circuit rider preachers would hold revivals here before the church was built. I don’t think it’s still used every Sunday though. Jacob’s oldest son, Abraham, was the first interment here. He died in a farming accident at 29 years of age in 1828. Pretty sure he would’ve been born at the home place off present day Matthews Lane on the Nolichucky River. I’m a direct descendent of Christian Easterly, the younger brother of Abraham. Lots of Easterly & Ottinger family members buried here.
