I grew up here from 1984-2000. House was named Seven Coves and located on White Hall Rd on Wilson Creek which fed into the Ware River. Built around 1875.
Hi Geoff,
Did family make any changes to the house or the property while you were living their? Did you parents buy this home or is it a family property?
My parents bought the home in 1984 and still own . The house was damaged by Hurricane Isabel in 2003. The foundation was raised and a taller, brick foundation was added to prevent damage from future floods. The shed roof on the left side of house (facing front) was demolished and a two-story addition took its place. The original house (the taller center portion) was constructed in 1875+/-, the two wings were added in the early 1920s. Prior to the addition of the wings, the main house was connected via a breezeway to a kitchen. The old kitchen was relocated on the property as a guest house. All the original outbuildings remain aside from a chicken coop that collapsed several years ago. The house is currently situated on 9+/- AC, but originally was a much larger farm. Its namesake comes from the seven coves located on the property at the time. Captain Woodland was original owner, a steamboat captain in the area. He purchased the land from a freed slave who made a living by selling water from a natural spring on the property.
